3 Common Types of Commercial Roofing Materials

Commercial properties have three types of roofing materials to protect them from snow, rain, and the heat of the sun. You can know about the pros and cons of each roofing material and make a solid decision on which roofing material to use for your property in this post.

EPDM

Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) is an affordable and durable roofing material suitable for most properties. Better known as rubber roof, the membrane is made from recycled rubber mixed with several strengthening components to give it durability and dependability against any weather.

Most properties use EPDM because they're budget-friendly and achieve exceptional results in many ways. Their only downside is poor foot traffic resistance, but for most properties where only technicians and roofing experts approach the roof, it's the perfect choice.

TPO

Thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) is a sturdy membrane that has rubber's flexibility and PVC's durability. Flexibility enables roofs to stretch without compromising their strength and durability. Keep in mind that the combined properties of EPDM and PVC in TPO makes it much more expensive than the two roofing materials.

PVC

Polyvinyl chloride or PVC is one of the sturdiest materials used for flat commercial roofing. It has the same strength and dependability as plastic pipes, furniture, and structural components that use them. PVC is a little more expensive than rubber roofs, but they have exceptional durability and capacity to achieve airtight sealing.

Durolast is a renowned PVC flat roofing material suitable for many applications, and many commercial properties use them because of their cost efficiency. Read more about them below from Select Renovations.

The Duro-Last Roofing System is custom fabricated from single-ply PVC which makes it ideal for any flat roof or low-sloped roof. This product is extremely durable because like the name says, it’s built to “Last”. This commercial roofing solution is highly reflective, which makes it very energy efficient. Duro-Last roofing is also watertight, resistant to chemicals, holds up to fire and high winds, all with low maintenance.

Proven Performance

Duro-Last roofing has been around since 1978 and since then billions of square feet of membrane have been installed on roofs throughout North America. Over several decades, their roofs have remained the superior product through patented technology best-in-class warranties, quality assurance and their commitment to providing problem-solving products.

Custom-Fabricated

Duro-Last is the only roof manufacturing company that prefabricated the entire roofing system in their factory-controlled environment. Through this proprietary process, 85% of the seams are finished before it arrives to the job site. This eliminates most of the fabrication on-site, which in other cases could lead to roof leaks.
